21-year-old member of the team “Top Five” booked himself a spot among the top-eight players at the Aegon Championships in London. For the first time in his career the young Russian will play in the QFs at the tournament of ATP World Tour 500’s series.
“Of course I was nervous,” said Medvedev. “I am nervous almost before every match I play. And especially when you go on the Queen’s Club centre court for the first time. You are a bit tight. But I managed to come through it and I played some really good tennis. I’m happy with my win.”
With this result Medvedev will reach a new career-high in the ATP Rankings next week. Prior to London Daniil has played in the ATP 500-level tournaments main draw only twice: in Hamburg last year and in Dubai this season. Last week Daniil as a qualifier reached the quarterfinal at Ricoh Open (ATP World Tour 250) in Netherlands.
