The top member of the Top Five’ team Elina Svitolina takes home another title. The Ukrainian defeated Simona Halep in three sets of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia final, 4-6 7-5 6-1.
Elina finished the match in 2 hours and 9 minutes with 25 winners to 37 unforced errors and converted 7 of 11 break point chances.
“Every day I’m just trying to work on my mental part, my physical, my tennis,” Elina said during the trophy ceremony. “Everything just came together and I’m very happy that it’s happened in such a big tournament. It was very tough first two sets and I’m really happy that it’s all finished. Hopefully, we’ll recover, me and Simona, because we’re struggling a bit physically”.
With the 8th WTA title in her career, Elina will rise to No. 6 in the WTA rankings (her new personal and national record) and will secure a top spot in the Porsche Race to Singapore leaderboard. Svitolina leads the tour with 31 match wins and 4 titles in 2017.
