Leading player of the Top Five’ team Elina Svitolina continues her winning streak to twelve matches!
This week Elina showed an outstanding tennis to win her first ever title at the WTA Premier-5-level event in Dubai. En route to the title she beat Saisai Zhen of China and two Americans Christina McHale and Lauren Davis. For the third time in a row she defeated top-seed Angelique Kerber in the semifinals and former World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki in the final: 6-4 6-2.
– Right now I’m very, very happy, it’s a great relief and big happiness – Elina admitted during her on-court interview after the final. – It’s tough to play against Wozniacki, she is such a fighter. I think it was a good match. These two sets – they were very difficult. My forehand was on fire tonight? I worked on it for many years (laughs). I am also happy for my coaches, I hope the two of them, who are not with me at the tournament, they did watch the final too. Oh, I have mixed feelings now. Thank you all for your support during the week!
With the title Elina becomes the first Ukranian who will rise to the No. 10 in the WTA Rankings. We congratulate Elina on her achievements and wish her even more success and victories!
